The Mindanao Daily Mirror
(January 15, 2010)
Holiday Gym and Spa, the premier health and wellness center in Davao City, kicks off the year with a bang: a bang and a round of fitness activities in a two-day fair at the SM City Davao.
On January 9 saw the Cardio Dance Festival, a two hour and a half of dance-based group exercise classes like hiphop, retro, latin and funk. One of the segments featured was the Holiday Zumba, one of the new classes that will be launched at HGS this year.
A cooking demo led by Chef BooBoo Maramba of Center for Asian Culinary Studies (CACS) was also held last Saturday. Ms. Maramba showed everyone how to prepare a Heart Healthy Valentine Salad and Banana Oatmeal Loaf. The audience composed mostly of students from University of Mindanao, were given free taste of the dishes prepared.
This was followed by lecture by Randolph Asilo, a licensed physical therapist and a clinical instructor at the Davao Doctors College, Physical Therapy Deptartment. Asilo talked about the importance of exercise and about posture and how it affects our everyday lives.
Of course the fair will not be complete without the ten-minute foot massage sampler for SM mall goers and fair visitors.
Free pain management clinic with treatments given by HGS licensed physical therapists was held in the afternoon.
fitness challenges for those who would like to test their fitness level was also held. Prizes were given away like gift certificates from SM City and one week free workout from HGS.
The afternoon last Saturday also saw a fitness ice-breaker game, much to the delight of the shoppers and visitors.
It was another first to hold a FITNESS MESSAGE RELAY.
The message was about fitness and they were made to run to be able to get the message from the first person. The teams were composed of 10 members each with a total of six teams participating.
The original message was "HOLIDAY GYM&SPA, CAMPAIGNING FOR HEALTHY LIVING. HEALTHY LIVING, COUNT ME IN!
Funny lines came out as the message was passed. The teams ended giving answers like "Holiday Gym&Spa continuing health, help me in", Holiday Gym&Spa, campaigning healthy living, calm being", "Holiday Gym&Spa containing healthy body living", "holiday gym&spa campaigning in, campaigning in the healthy living show the year right", "Holiday Gym and Spa, campaigning healthy me and us".
The winning team came the closest with the answer: "Holiday Gym and Spa, campaigning healthy living, count me in".
On January 10 was the Cardio Festival, another two and a half hour of traditional types of group exercise classes like hi-lo, kickboxing and Latin. The Cardio Festival
also witnessed the coming together of members not only from HGS but also from other fitness centers like Beefit Gym. Ms. Vicky Javier was the special guest instructor during Sunday's cardiofestival.
The purpose of the two-day festival was to gather all fitness enthusiasts as well as those who want to try something new to show the public that group exercise is fun and a good way to be active and healthy.
For the first time, Holiday gym also launched two of its martial arts class offerings for 2010: Juijitsu under the helm of Paolo Tancontian and Muay Thai under the tutelage of Dr. Vincent Vicente and Ryan Cordero.
HGS would like to thank SM City Davao for entrusting two days of their celebration on health and wellness, Cacs, Holiday Spa, Vicky Javier and Jimmy Javier, Arnold Alvarez, St. John Paul II College of Davao Dancers, Maharlika Drumbeaters who formally opened the show on Saturday and to all fitness enthusiasts who came and finished the cardiofestivals, congratulations!
